Twenty years ago this month, on July 28, 1997, five University of Washington graduate students founded cookierecipe.com. At the time, they could have had no idea their innovative vision to create an online destination where home cooks could exchange recipes would become the world’s largest digital food brand!

Today, the numbers are evidence: In just two decades, that website—now Allrecipes.com— registers more than 80 million global users and 1.5 billion annual visits. The brand has grown to become a leading resource for home cooks of all skill levels who are seeking to find and share favorite recipes, cooking knowledge, grocery offers, videos, entertaining tips, and meal solutions. The Allrecipes experience now extends across digital, print, broadcast, video—and even cookware!—along with pioneering new technologies such as smart appliances and voice-guided devices.

To date, the Allrecipes community of home cooks has shared more than half a billion cooking experiences through shared recipes, photos, reviews, ratings, ‘I Made It’ tags, personal collections, videos, and profiles. A few other fast facts:

  • Nearly 10 billion pages of recipes have been viewed on Allrecipes experiences
  • A new recipe is posted every two minutes
  • Home cooks from 246 unique countries and territories have visited Allrecipes
  • Our community has saved more than 368 million recipes to online recipe boxes
  • At peak traffic, around Thanksgiving, the average visitor to Allrecipes views 34 pages of recipes, reviews, videos and articles.

To celebrate this milestone, I am also honored to report that Governor Jay Inslee of Washington State, and Seattle’s Mayor Edward Murray have joined our celebration by proclaiming the 20th anniversary date of Friday, July 28th as the official “Allrecipes.com Day.”

Looking back at the past two decades, I am extremely grateful of the tens of millions of home cooks whose contributions have helped make Allrecipes the resource it is today. We look forward to continuing to be a source of inspiration for helping home cooks to discover and share the joy of cooking for decades to come. As our brand continues to evolve, we will remain proactive in our commitment to empower our community, meeting our members wherever, whenever and however they seek recipe resources for inspiration, instilling them with confidence to succeed with their cooking goals no matter the size or scope.

To celebrate the Allrecipes 20th anniversary, we are introducing an exclusive page featuring our all-time best-of-the-best recipes from the first 20 years, and four new super-premium destinations centered on providing home cooks with inspiration to fuel their food passions: Daily Dish, Sweet Life, Brunchworthy and EasyHealthy showcase Allrecipes’ fastest-trending, seasonally-relevant articles, recipes and videos. In addition, Allrecipes, Amazon, and Char-Broil are giving 10 home cooks the chance to win a complete grill and accessories package along with Chef John of Food Wishes’ Epic Grilling Guide just by using the Allrecipes Alexa skill between July 27th and August 3rd.

To everyone who has engaged with Allrecipes.com over the past 20 years, shared recipes on the site, and/or been inspired to cook a new dish and discover new cooking skills, we offer sincere gratitude for being an Allrecipes fan! Here’s to a delicious and satisfying next 20 years!
