Food products are the primary driver for grocery shopping, but shoppers—especially parents*—also depend on grocery stores when purchasing various household supplies. Allrecipes investigated which other products consumers shop for at grocery stores in its most recent Measuring Cup Trend Report. Topping the “household products” list are laundry and cleaning products, personal care items, and food-storage products. Parents stand out from non-parents by being 18% more likely to purchase vitamins and pet care products (+15%) on their grocery shopping trips. No one wants Rover to go hungry.

*Allrecipes’ 2014 Grocery Trends Survey revealed 95% of women respondents said they were their family’s primary grocery shopper and influenced what went on the grocery list. Sixty-seven percent of men in the survey said they handled shopping with 81% saying they determined what was on the shopping list.
